Answers to common questions about WordBack. Can’t find yours? Write to support@apexappsstudio.com — tell us your device, iOS version and what happened, and we’ll get back to you.

How do I add words?

In Library, tap + to add a word or a topic. A word can have several accepted answers on each side, a note, and a photo or a symbol. Topics can be nested as deep as you like.

You can also add words from a photo with Scan Text (Library › +), or open a .wordback topic file someone shared with you.

What happens when I get a word wrong?

Settings › After a mistake decides it. Type it again now (the default) asks you to answer the missed word again right away; Repeat at the end asks it again after the other words. Either way it comes back once.

Turn on Repeat until right to keep a missed word coming back until you answer it correctly.

Why isn’t a small typo accepted?

Answers are checked exactly, including accents and apostrophes. Turn on Settings › Forgive small typos to accept one small slip in words of five letters or more (two neighbouring letters swapped, or in long words one wrong letter); a forgiven typo counts as correct.

Write mode doesn’t recognize my handwriting

The first time you write in a language, WordBack downloads that language’s recognition model once, so you need an internet connection. After that it works offline.

On iPad, Settings › Write with is set to Apple Pencil only, so a resting hand never draws. Choose Pencil or finger to write with your finger.

Nothing is checked until you tap Next; if nothing could be read, you can simply write again.

Speak practice doesn’t hear me

Allow Microphone and Speech Recognition for WordBack in iOS Settings › Apps › WordBack. Speak is available for the languages your device’s speech recognition supports.

Audio is never saved; only the recognized text is kept as your answer.

How do I get my words on another iPhone or iPad?

Sign in with the same Apple Account and keep iCloud on for WordBack: your library and practice history sync automatically. Settings › iCloud Sync shows the status. A new device can take a little while to receive a large library.

Voices and settings stay on each device.

How do I back up or move my library?

Settings › Export Vocabulary saves a WordBack backup of everything, or a CSV list of your words. Settings › Import Vocabulary restores a backup: it replaces the current library after you confirm, and nothing changes until the file has been checked.

To share just one topic, open the topic’s menu and choose Share Topic…

How do I change the app’s language?

WordBack is available in English, Polish and Russian. Choose one in iOS Settings › Apps › WordBack › Language.

Can I start my statistics over?

Settings › Reset Learning Statistics… makes every word New again. Your words, topics and practice history are kept. You can also reset a single word from its statistics.
